Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wolverhampton, Professor Geoff Layer, said: “The programme brings together the vision of the University as the ‘Opportunity University’ to develop ‘students and staff who are entrepreneurial’ and the Military Spouses Business and Employment Charter which looks to ‘encourage spouses to set up in business and be able to run an ethical business from their home.”
In September, the University also introduces Online Distance Learning Business courses which will enable service families to study from home, alleviating childcare and location issues.
The Online Distance Learning BA (Hons) Business Management (BABM) and Master
of Business Administration (MBA) will run parallel to the traditional courses, and will earn the same award. The courses are fully online and delivered via the University Virtual Learning Environment.
They are not massive online open courses; students will be treated as individuals and it is likely that they will be studying as part of a small group. The Virtual Learning Environment is tutor supported and will enable the students to share ideas, concerns, and comments with fellow learners. Although students will study online they will still be part of the University and can drop in at any time to utilise the University’s facilities or speak to staff on a one-to-one basis.
The University of Wolverhampton has been delivering educational programmes
to Service personnel at RAF Cosford for over 15 years and has a great relationship with them. Since the signing of the Armed Forces Community Covenant last year, the University has focused on developing opportunities to support Armed Forces personnel and their families.
Lianne Bradbury, served in the Army for 22 years and is the University’s Armed Forces’ and Uniformed Services’ Co- ordinator. Lianne provides the link between the University and MoD and assists staff in gaining a better understanding of the needs of Armed Forces personnel and their families.
