This is one of the ferries established as ferries fl oating across Edogawa River by the Tokugawa government in the early Edo era. The ferry is also well-known thanks to “Nogiku-no-Haka”, a novel by Itoh Sachio and “Yagiri-no-Watashi”

When passing through the gate of two gods made entirely of Japanese zelkova, one can observe some impressive structures such as the Kiken Castle, which enshrines Taishakuten, and the main temple. The Daikyakuden, which is a famous historical structure of Tokyo, and the garden with a waterfall are also magnificent. The fair celebrating Koshin day, which is said to have rediscovered the Ita Honzon of Taishakuten, attracts many worshippers.

The oldest shopping street in Katsushika Ward, connecting Taishakuten Temple and Shibamata Station. Its charm lies in its atmosphere with a deep sense of humanity - just like in historical movies. This is a memorial hall for “Otokowa Tsuraiyo”, the comic fi lm series that was a big hit with Atsumi Kiyoshi starring under the directorship of Yamada Yoji. The house of Yamamoto Einosuke, a businessperson in the Taisho era, is publicly shown. There are many attractions including a warehouse, a tenement house with a gate that combines Western and Japanese styles of architecture, and a beautiful garden arranging a fountain pond and a small artifi cial hill. There is a corner with a tea shop, where visitors may take a rest after strolling at Shibamata.
