Spring is the season when the cherry blossoms bloom. In Tokyo, there are many popular spots for viewing cherry blossoms such as Chidorigafuchi and Sumida River, along with various locations such as Ueno Park, where cherry blossom festivals are held.

Sanja Festival Location: Asakusa Shrine p.21


Early May


A major festival that attracts about 1.5 million visitors during its three-day period. Portable shrines are carried around Asakusa and you can feel the atmosphere of the Edo Period.


5 Jindaiji Temple


A fair dating back to the Edo era, where a Buddhist monk writes your wish on the left eye of your new Dharma doll in Siddham script.

6 August Late 7 August


Go to the Tokyo Islands area with its blue sky and blue water to enjoy marine sports. Surfing can be enjoyed, as well as sea bathing.

About 90 teams gather from around the country to perform powerful dances. The “Jiman-ichi” market, where famous local products of various locations throughout Japan can be found, is also held here.


Grand Marunouchi Ondo Bon Dance Festival Mid-


Location: Hibiya Park pp.19・41 The largest Bon dance festival in Tokyo, surrounding the huge fountain in Hibiya Park. Anyone is free to participate.

July to


Grand fireworks light up the sky in the summer. Fireworks festivals are held at various locations including Tokyo Bay, Sumida River, and Jingu Gaien, and the streets are lively with fireworks and festivities.
