The Iwasaki estate is an important cultural asset with a magnifi cent Western-style residence, a princely Japanese style house and extensive gardens. A Western-style building with a billiard room was designed by Josiah Conder in the Meiji era who also designed many buildings in Tokyo including the “Rokumeikan Guest House”.

Mukojima-Hyakkaen Gardens 向島百花園
Hyakkaen means “garden covered with all sorts of fl owers during the four seasons”. This is a garden for professionals of arts and literature and also for ordinary people who love wild and cultivated fl owers. Established in the late Edo era.

It became a garden for the Imperial Household in 1906 and was opened to the public in 1949. It is a famous garden where French formal-style gardens, British landscape gardens, and Japanese gardens coexist in harmony. Bringing in items such as alcoholic beverages and play equipment are prohibited.
