“Many of the arguments for the cap on Service pay (notwithstanding the Government defi cit) is to come in line with other Government departments. Military personnel, in the main not only do a totally diff erent job to other Government departments; they also live a completely diff erent life. This includes extra laws, constraints, and pressures which are not found in other departments. The main issue is the conti nuous turbulence and family moves. This impacts on many spouses who fi nd it diffi cult to obtain any or certain types of employment and in turn restricts the family income to one salary in many cases. To this end to try and make our pay comparable is fundamentally fl awed.”
