B. Mentoring Chair- Steve Litwiller 1. The key to the success of this program continues to be identification of the first-year teacher, and contact as early in the school year as possible. We will again reach out to Missouri superintendents through the MSHSAA e-mail system.


2. There will be an update the list of first year teachers as they are received. District presidents please make the effort to contact your first year teachers in your district. Make it a point to assign your vice-presidents to the novices.


C. MIOSM (Music In Our Schools Month chair)- currently vacant D. Research Chair- Wendy Sims 1. The Poster session is scheduled and promises to be a very informative and enjoyable event. 2. There have been discussion about making the Research Journal available through the MMEA website.


E. NAfME-C [Advisor and Student President]- Carla Maltas & David Schatz 1. Artwork for the Thomas J. Trimborn scholarship was discussed. 2. NAfME-C is in the process of lining up clinics for the upcoming conference.


F. Tri-M Chair- Cathy Coonis 1. As of the April Tri-M report from NAfME, there were 26 active Tri-M Chapters in Missouri. 2. Advisors of the other 25 active chapters have been contacted to see if they would be willing to do some outreach to the schools in their districts, starting or re-starting Tri-M chapters in schools that don’t currently have chapters.


G. MSHSAA Missouri State High School Activities Association- Davine Davis 1. Online Rules Reviews; Opens August 1st and closes September 7th

H. Exhibitors Chair- John Patterson Exhibits are once again expected to sell out; WIFI connection will be available in the Exhibit Hall for all vendors.


I. MSM Editors [Missouri School Music Magazine]- Marty & Sally Hook Sally Hook reported that the transfer from the previous editors, Dee and Dona Lewis, was nearing completion. Submission dates for the December (deadline November 1) MSM and format were discussed. Sally Hook thanked the board for its help and support.

Historian- Marvin Manring 1. Marvin Manring reported that he is accepting 25 year service award applications. Applications can be found on the web site.


2. “PUT CLAUDE IN THE HALL” is an ongoing effort to honor Claude T. Smith in the Hall of Famous Missourians. Members and officers are encouraged to keep an open line of communication with House legislators.


3. Dr. Tom Trimborn has donated a set of “Band Pioneer” sketches to the Archives. 4. HISTORY VIDEO: A short historical video is being assembled to chronicle the Association’s beginnings from 1934 to the present. We hope to embed or link this in the website, display at the conference, and any other promotional opportunities that might occur. Past efforts by Aurelia Hartenberger and Dave Goodwin will be folded into this video. Ideas for footage include short sound bites from members of all ages, along with photos and footage from any of our NINE decades as an MMEA.


5. MMEA “HISTORY MUSEUM”: A special room to display archived materials at the 2013 Conference, including recorded memorabilia, MSM issues, documents (framed or under plastic!), and photos of All-State groups, along with the historical DVD on screen. The fall issue of MSM includes a request to the membership to submit materials for display.


6. The pre-conference issue, along with information about conference activities, will center on the locations of the conference from 1935-2013.
