Missouri Music Educators Association Minutes


August 18th 2012


The Board of Directors/Advisory Council of the Missouri Music Educators Association met at Tan-Tar-A Resort, Osage Beach, for the purpose of conducting official business. President Lines called the meeting to order at 9:08 AM with the following Board of Directors/Advisory Council members present.

I. Call to Order: President Lines called the meeting to order at 9:08 AM. He outlined the agenda and detailed the format of the meeting.


II. Approval of Minutes from previous meeting Rocky Long (C. Cifelli) moved to approve the Board of Directors minutes of May 5, 2013.


III. President’s Report-Kevin Lines A. Informational items: The Voting Body of MMEA includes the following; President, President- Elect, Past-President, elected Vice-Presidents, and the District Presidents. The Advisory Council and Administrative Staff do not vote.


B. NAfME National Meeting: A recap of the NAfME National Conference, which was held in Baltimore, MD. June 22-25 was presented by President Lines, which included breakout sessions and other presentations concerning Music Education.


C. Southwest Division meeting: President Lines and President-Elect Brandes attended the SW Division meeting which was held in Wichita Kansas.


D. 75th Annual In-Service Workshop/Conference Theme MUSIC: Key to Success.


IV. President-Elect Report-Gary Brandes A. National Assembly/Music Education Week: President-Elect Brandes informed the board that he attended most of the Academies that were in session during the conference and brought the board up to date concerning changes in the national honors ensembles. Missouri has 26 total representatives: 6 Band; 6 Orchestra; 13 Choir; 1 Jazz. Applications are made online beginning Feb. 2013. The national honors ensembles will be moving to Nashville TN in October of 2013.


B. The following Missouri schools received a grant through the Give a Note Foundation: 1. Joplin High School 2. Beaufort Elementary, Union School District 3. Marceline High School 4. Gainesville R-V School


C. Southwest Division Meeting- President Kevin Lines and President-Elect Gary Brandes attended the NAfME Southwest Division meeting July 18&19, 2012 in Wichita, KS. John Taylor Southwest Division President presided. All Presidents shared state reports. 1. NAfME President Nancy Ditmer and NAfME Executive Director and CEO Michael A. Butera were in attendance. Updates were presented on the “Give a Note” Foundation, National Honors Ensembles and the change of Music Education Week to Nashville for 2013. Director Butera shared insight to legislative developments in Washington D.C. that affect music and education in general.
