this rule after losing two members due to relationship break-ups with staff members. Not all of our staff agree with the rule, but they do comply with it. Since implementing the rule, I haven't had a club member or staff member quit for relationship break-up reasons. When staff members are unable to

work a shift for any reason, they don’t expect the club to find a replacement for them. This first rule I implemented as general manager was that anyone who needs to miss or switch a shift needs to find another staff member and then notify me of the change. The only time I have to deal with shift changes is if someone becomes ill and is unable to handle the cov- erage themselves, and this rarely happens.

e’re very strict and constantly look for faults in our mem- bers’ movements. We expect perfection. When it comes to
correcting technique, I tell my trainers, don't present a problem without a proposed solution. They need to provide feedback that corrects the problem -- as opposed to focusing on what was wrong. For example, if a mem- ber’s back is rounded on a dead-
lift setup, we don't tell them they have a rounded back. Intead we give them cues to correct it and make it safe. We expect nothing but the best
from our trainers. We tell them to, put forth your best effort, or don't do it. In our earlier years, for ex- ample, we had staff members who would mop over gym chalk left on
the floor. This created a white film all over it, and then additional work for other people who had to re-mop. It's always best to do it right the first time.

If a client mentions a sister, partner or friend who is interested in personal training in their home or at another facility, we see this as a conflict of interest if our trainers take this on privately. Our rule is that the potential client should be referred to us and that any transactions go through our system.
