Hard work allows expansion into soft furnishings for Jeff Williams Carpets
J
eff Williams Carpets has expanded into the adjoining premises at Chepstow Road, Newport after a £150,000 investment,
supported by Barclays Business. The new investment will allow further
expansion into the growing soft furnishings, flooring and curtains markets which has seen consistent market growth in recent years. Jeff Williams Carpets has been trading in
Newport since 1973 and currently employs three staff with a business turnover of £400,000. Louanne Williams, daughter of founder
Jeff Williams who now runs the business, said: “Like many businesses we have had to manage our business carefully during the economic downturn. We are definitely seeing a more considered and less impulsive shopper these days. Consumers are looking for value and good service and provided you deliver a quality product and service to match you can still be successful. I have been in the business since I was 16 and therefore able to use my vast experience to provide the best possible service to fit every budget. “We have always been able to adapt our
business to survive within this industry and the additional space will allow this to continue into the foreseeable future.” Andrew Price, Barclays Business manager,
said: “Barclays Business is committed to using our local knowledge and experience to support such propositions, which are vital to a prosperous economy. By working closely with our customer Barclays Business has been able to support Jeff Williams Carpets both financially and professionally throughout this project. Investment in the new premises demonstrates both Barclays Business and Jeff Williams Carpets confidence in the continued growth and success of the business.” Louanne said: “While we recognise

the importance of the internet to many businesses but we still think there is demand for independent retailers like ourselves, where customers want to come and touch the product and benefit from our knowledge and expertise when buying items or
flooring for the home. “Running a
business is tough as the responsibility for the expansion and
success of the business can sometimes weigh heavy and holidays are few and far between, but the flexibility to make those decisions
and watching happy customers walk out of my shop make it all worthwhile.”
