A dream wedding at Newport University

W

atching her sister get married in the very fi rst wedding to take place at the University of

Wales Newport, Sally Jones knew she wanted it as her wedding venue too. Sally got her wish and was recently married to

Yoan Jones at the university’s Caerleon Campus. After a romantic proposal from Yoan two years earlier on Christmas Day, Sally decided she wanted a winter wedding. She said: “Yoan proposed to me on Christmas

Day 2009 in front of all the family. As a tradition my dad dresses up as Father Christmas for the grandchildren, and my name was called to go up and get my present. It was a large box, and inside was a smaller box holding my diamond ring. I looked at Yoan and he asked me to marry him. Everyone at my parent’s house was crying – it was amazing and one of the best days of my life. “We didn’t even view any other venues. After

being at my sister’s wedding I always said that if I got married it would be at the university. The grounds are amazing, the food is delicious and our guests were all impressed. The staff went out of their way to be helpful, and made me feel relaxed during the day. The entire day was seamless and our wedding was perfect – a day I will remember forever.” The University of Wales, Newport is licensed to

hold marriage ceremonies within the beautiful, oak panelled boardroom at its campus in Caerleon. It also has a range of reception rooms to host the perfect wedding breakfast or evening celebration. The events team at the University have a wealth of knowledge in planning weddings and can help with every aspect of your perfect day.

hen it comes to being the bride, the whole experience should be about being made to

feel extra special for your extra special day. Carol Powell, one of Wales’ fi nest couture wedding dress designers, knows this, and Peterstone Court, the AA fi ve-star country house and spa nestled below the Brecon Beacons knows this too - which is why they have teamed up to provide a unique Special Brides package for brides who deserve a little pampering as their dream wedding dress is created for them. A couture dress is all about you, from the

design ideas and colours to the choice of hundreds of silks satins and exquisite laces. Each gown is expertly designed to fl atter your own particular fi gure and enhance your fi nest features. It will also be comforting to know that with the Special Brides package it is an affordable luxury, which can cost less than an off-the-peg designer dress. Although the choice is yours, you will be

expertly guided by Carol so you have fun in choosing, while Peterstone will cater for the other side of this pampering package. The wedding dress process starts with an initial

meeting, where Carol discusses ideas of the style, and through sketches and consultation a unique design for the bride is born. Carol’s signature gowns have boned and tight-laced bodices to create the perfect hourglass silhouette, but whether classic or contemporary the choice of style is up to you A calico dress known as a ‘toile’ is then created

for your fi rst fi tting. At this stage all the design elements are perfected before silks and laces are cut into shape. This ensures the perfection of fi t which is the hallmark of a couture gown. And the subsequent fi ttings create a perfectly stunning individual dress for that most special of days. The Special Brides package includes a dress

designed for you, where you consult with Carol on the look you want, for her to produce an original design, and then the dress is created in the course of three subsequent fi ttings, including stays and spa treatments at Peterstone Court Hotel, near Brecon. Enjoying your own wedding is all about feeling

special. How much more special can you get for you to have an individual and unique dress, individually designed and made for you and you only?
