These are based around long standing relationships with local farms, top quality service and good value top quality produce. Consistent quality of product is sustained through keeping all processes in house from curing their own bacons, to making pastry for their delicious award winning pies. learnt from Neil’s father who had his own butchers shop based in Longtown

at the foot of the Black Mountains. At the core of the business was the ‘meat round’ where the shop would be taken to his customers and meat would be cut and delivered to the doorstep – a truly incredible service by today’s standards where customers commonly pack their own bags and even check their goods out. Such heritage and service are


becoming increasingly rare but Neil Powell and his sons Peter and Ben are continuing these traditions through their five shops in Herefordshire and Monmouthshire – based in Abergavenny, Hereford, Ewyas Harold, Ross on Wye and, of course, the recently renovated Chepstow shop. Peter Powell, who runs the Chepstow


branch, said: “We have been based at the garden centre for more than seven
