CARMARTHENSHIRE NEWS • EDITION 11 JANUARY - FEBRUARY 2013 Winter vomiting bug
7
New school will be eco-friendly
HOSPITALS across the UK have been hit by the winter vomiting bug and Hywel Dda Health Board is continuing to ask the public to wait until they are at least 48 hours free of symptoms before visiting any health facility or care home. Whilst unpleasant, diarrhoea and vomiting is rarely serious and most people
make a full recovery within one or two days. However, the virus can be more serious for sick and vulnerable patients. If you are experiencing symptoms it is important to wash your hands
thoroughly after going to the toilet and before handling food to prevent it being passed on to others. There is no specific treatment and the general advice is to drink lots of water and rest. Advice on how to keep yourself and others well this winter is available at
www.nhsdirect.wales.nhs.uk.
Staff of Carmarthenshire County Council who are prepared to go that extra mile and shine will be celebrated during the spring with a special ‘shine award’ ceremony.
Shineawards
In recent years the council has achieved significant success in delivering excellent services. A wide range of awards from outside bodies has acknowledged our success. These achievements are substantially the result of the collective effort that requires all members of staff, in whatever position and for however long they have worked for the Council, to do their best day in day out. It is the commitment and hard work of these often unsung heroes that has enabled the Council to be held up as a model of best practice on many occasions.
This event was a major success last year and this year we hope to build on this. One of the award categories is the ‘Customer Champions’, and these will be chosen from the nominations given by the readers of Carmarthen News. Readers are asked to complete the following form and tell us of any individuals or a group of staff who have provided an outstanding service to you or your community.
Please complete the form and return to the Communications Section,
