Partners link up to look at rural community health
ABERYSTWYTH University, the University of Wales Trinity St David and Hywel Dda Health Board have joined forces to establish an innovative and unique chair in rural health. The
role of Hywel Dda
Reader/Chair of Rural Health and Community Wellbeing - the first such position in Wales – recognises the unique opportunity available to the NHS and local universities in West Wales to work in partnership and redefine how policies and services can improve the health and wellbeing of those living in rural communities. The Hywel Dda area is home to
only 13 per cent of Wales’ total population, but with an ageing population where one in three adults
live with a long-term condition, it has never been more important to identify what rural communities need to live longer and healthier lives. Trevor Purt, Chief Executive of
Hywel Dda Health Board, said: “We recognise the unique challenges of our large rural geography, but far from seeing this as a problem, we see it as an opportunity to evolve how we work in partnership to meet the specific health needs of our rural communities. “This position is about ensuring
our services work for the people we serve and will enable us to deliver a new type of healthcare provision in a real rural area, with real people, every day.”

CARMARTHENSHIRE Command Community Safety Staff are working with Carmarthenshire County Council’s Road Safety team to deliver safety messages to road users. The team will be using big banners to display safety messages in an attempt to remind road users of potential dangers and causes of accidents. Watch Manger Sean Lloyd said: “Through working with the local authority,
we are aiming to give Carmarthenshire road users a safety message to reduce the number of road traffic collisions. The message will be rotated monthly in an attempt to target all the counties road users.” The partnership was launched during November’s national road safety week. Monthly campaigns are due to take place as follows:-

PEOPLE have until February 10 to share their views on the introduction of charges for non- residential social services for adults. The consultation asks whether
people think it is fair for the council to charge for certain non-residential care services, such as supported employment, or day care. The consultation questionnaire is
available online, through customer service centres, libraries, and by post on request. If any new charges are introduced,
they will not start before July 2013. For
