Winter driving tips

THE University of Wales Trinity Saint David has been awarded the contract to conduct research for a review of

the Eco-Schools

programme in Wales. Awarded by the Countryside

Council for Wales, the 18-month contract will see a Trinity Saint David-led team evaluate the Eco- Schools scheme, onto which 90 per cent of schools in Wales are registered. Established

in 1995, the

international Eco-Schools initiative provides a highly structured system for the environmental management of schools and encourages pupils to engage with environmental and sustainable development issues. Jane Davidson, the Director of the

Institute of Sustainable Practice and Resource Effectiveness (INSPIRE), said: “By using it as a learning resource, pupils take key roles in decision-making and participation in order to reduce the environmental

impact of their school. “Trinity Saint David already has a

strong track record of putting sustainability at the core of its delivery. Through INSPIRE, the University

aims to embed

sustainable development through the curriculum, campus, community and culture in order to place graduates in a unique position of strength in the international market for jobs.”

IT’S that time of the year when we may have to think about making journeys in bad weather conditions. Always consider the following: • Is the journey essential? • Check weather forecasts • Listen to local radio for updates • Take a mobile phone • Equip yourself with warm clothes, boots, a blanket, a hot drink in a flask, a high-energy snack, a shovel/spade, a pen, paper and a torch

• Inform people at destination of travel plans • Clear windows and mirrors before setting off. Keep a scraper and a can of de-icerin your vehicle at all times. Visit www.roadsafety
