College students’ film joy

PERFORMING arts students at Coleg Sir Gâr have performed in a BBC Wales short film which won Best Film and Best Director at a BBC premiere in Cardiff. Buddha Boy, produced by It’s My

Shout - a training scheme supporting aspiring talent in the creative industries, has launched the careers of writers, actors and directors. “This is a big professional production which is supported by well-known actors,” said performing arts lecturer, Michael Hackfort. “We take part in this scheme every year which we believe gives our students a broader learning experience than just stage acting. “The experience is extended to all

creative industries students, gets learners used to camera work and gives them a professional insight into producing TV programmes.”

MID and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service’s Community Risk Reduction Department has launched a new campaign called “Be A Good Neighbour”. The campaign has been designed encourage

residents in

Carmarthenshire to look out for their elderly, vulnerable and disabled neighbours and family members. The Service is urging everyone to be a good neighbour and ensure they do their bit to keep themselves,

their family and

community safe from fire. Community Safety Manager for

Carmarthenshire, John Jones, said: “The people we want to target are the most vulnerable people in our communities such as the elderly, disabled and people living alone. These are people who are most likely to have a fire in the home, receive an injury or even die in a fire. As a member of the community you could assist us in identifying these people. All we ask is that you ask

anyone who you think would benefit from a home fire safety check to contact us, or to seek their permission to pass on their contact details to us.”

The process will involve a home

fire safety check, along with the supply and fitting of smoke alarms where required. This service is free to all - visit www.mawwfire.gov.uk.

For more information on the campaign, contact Beverley Davies on 0370 60 60 699 or 2253 or email bj.davies@mawwfire.gov.uk
