Genesis sets wheels in motion for Llanelli lone dad

A LONE father from Llanelli is geared towards a successful career in mechanics, thanks to the support of Genesis. Dad-of-two Mark Reynolds had

been out of work for two years, and with low confidence and lack of childcare, his future looked bleak. However, Mark was introduced to

Genesis, which helped him fund childcare, and offered advice and guidance, allowing him to complete a level one Diploma in Motor Vehicle Maintenance at Coleg Sir Gâr. He is now studying level two and aims to become employed or self-employed in the near future. Genesis Advisor Carole Walters

said: “Mark was focused and determined from the start, and is well on the way to achieving his ultimate goal.” Genesis,

based Carmarthenshire Council, within is a

European Social Funded project which aims to improve life for families, either because they are

unemployed, economically inactive or on a low income. For further information call 01554 744340.

CO alarms could save you from danger

THE Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service is urging the public to be mindful of the dangers of carbon monoxide and ensure they have CO alarms installed. CO is emitted from appliances that

burn carbon-based fuels including oil, gas, wood and coal. Alarms should comply with BS EN 5029, carry a British or European approval mark and be installed and checked in line with the manufacturer’s

instructions. To prevent the escape of CO all

work should be carried out by a registered gas safe engineer and appliances and flues should be tested regularly. Landlords have a legal duty to conduct annual gas safety checks and maintain gas appliances. Households also need to ensure

sufficient air flow around appliances and have their chimney swept once a year.
