GLASGOW BUSINESS AWARDS

Ian Collins says it’s

important to highlight the great work going on across the city

Ian Collins of Bank of Scotland, main sponsor of the awards, pays tribute to a much-anticipated fixture on the business calendar

RECOGNISING SUCCESSFUL ENTERPRISES

At Bank of Scotland, we are delighted to continue our proud association with the Glasgow Business Awards; an event which has grown in stature to become a much anticipated fixture on the local business calendar. While the economy remains rather fragile, it is perhaps all the more important to highlight the great work going on across the city and to celebrate the fact that Glasgow remains a great place to do business. A subdued economy can of course take its toll on business and the focus can change from one of growth to one of survival. But companies can and do adapt to change and this need to adapt does indeed produce new opportunities. There are many examples of firms successfully

changing tack – diversifying, trading in new markets, becoming more sustainable not only to reduce costs but to compete for new contracts. The Glasgow Business Awards endeavour to

recognise successful enterprises across all sectors, businesses which inspire others with their success be that in providing choice on the high street, providing services in the local community, providing employment, or by making Glasgow an attractive place to live in and to visit. As well as covering many sectors, the awards

also recognise many aspects of running a successful business, from customer service to marketing, employee engagement to sustainability, with some fantastic examples of best practice on display.

At Bank of Scotland we too aim to support

companies operating in all sectors across the city. We take a long-term, relationship-led

approach to banking and our involvement with the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce ensures we maintain a regular dialogue with local company directors, managers and entrepreneurs. Working closely with the Chamber

strengthens our knowledge of the issues affecting local firms and enables us to provide valuable guidance and insight to businesses in Glasgow. These awards allow us all the chance to reflect

on how businesses are benefitting the city and may even inspire others towards similar success in the year ahead.
