aking businesses greener isn’t a new thing. Far from it. But as part of the
Government’s strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80 per cent by 2050, geting green is moving to the top of every business’ agenda. Technology is advancing at a rapid pace and businesses can take taking advantage of these developments to drive their green initiative. We’ve been working closely
with a number of organisations that have already recognised video conferencing as one way of helping them cut travel costs and carbon emissions for unnecessary journeys. For example, we’ve supported Hampshire Fire & Rescue Service in using video conferencing to dial into meetings no mater

where they are. But for this to work, it’s crucial to have a reliable network connection. Tis means for any business that’s
considering video conferencing, or
telepresence, they must also think about whether their supplier can get the right infrastructure in place to support the necessary bandwidth.

REDUCTION AND RECYCLING CONSIDER YOUR WASTE
Often businesses looking to save money by reducing the amount of waste they throw away only consider recycling, says Zero Waste Scotland. However, if businesses are serious about cutting costs, reducing the amount of waste produced in the first place is a great way to start. Research
carried out by Zero Waste Scotland shows that Scottish businesses could save about 1 per cent of their turnover with simple waste reduction measures. Recycling is the next step. In
the average office, about 70 per cent of waste is recyclable. And by employing efficient recycling schemes
TERNATIVE T TRAVEL
Tony Grace, chief operating officer, Virgin Media Business explains how video conferencing can cut travel costs and carbon emissions
Video conferencing shouldn’t
just be restricted for use in meetings. Staff should consider peer-to-peer video conferencing to allow them to work remotely from home, yet remain in touch. If more people work from
home, there’s less traffic on the roads, and for those who still use the roads, journey times will be shorter. And of course with less people clogging up our transport systems there’d be fewer emissions damaging the environment. Technology’s making
workforces much more flexible. One time essential face-to-face meetings can now be carried out instantly across the globe. Te use of video is giving staff
more freedom to work from the comfort of their own home as well as reducing costs for businesses and driving the green agenda. We’re working closely with customers to put in place services that meet their needs. It’s leading to happy staff,
cost savings, and a beter environment.
