GOLD SOUK Walking through the gold souk you will be dazzled as you pass row upon row of gleaming shops selling diamonds and bright gold. Along the slightly larger lanes are shop fronts crammed with an opulent display of gold necklaces, rings, bangles, earrings and brooches. Dubai boasts one of the lowest
gold prices in the world and goods are usually sold on weight as opposed to detail or crafts- manship. Haggling is essential. Always remember to check the current price of gold with your hotel concierge before embarking on a shopping expedition. In the evening, the area is a hive of activity as locals and visitors come out to prom- enade beneath the high ceil- ings and heavy fans above.

SPICE SOUK Many visitors will also enjoy a trip to the nearby spice souk. With its bustling narrow streets and fragrant spices colourfully stacked up against one another, you’ll be sure to appreciate the smells and ambience of this market. Bazaar are great places to visit if you’re in search of some colourful textiles. With many shops offering wares from India and Pakistan, there’s a huge range of jewel- encrusted silks, brightly coloured satins, paisley-printed crepe and pastel chiffons to choose from. Prices are reasonable and what’s more, being totally original it’s not something you’ll fi nd at home.

FESTIVAL BARGAINS If you’re in Dubai in January or visiting during the summer, take advantage of either Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) or Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS). During the festival periods, visitors benefi t from sizeable discounts from clothing to electronics.
