“FAIR”LY IMPORTANT MATTERS……………….……………………… F.Y.I. ON A F.Y.I. SPOTLIGHT
CONGRATULATIONS TO LEAH NORRIS
FOR BEING SELECTED AS THE
IAFE YPI STEERING COMMITTEE ZONE II REPRESENTATIVE
We asked Leah to tell us more about this honor— see article at right……….
YPI Steering Committee Zone 2 Representative By Leah Norris
That title is quite a mouthful! So I will break it down. The Interna-
tional Association of Fairs and Expositions has a group for people involved in the Fair industry, be it staff, volunteers, Board members, and Associate members under 40, called the Young Professionals Initiative (YPI). The YPI was forerunner of our very own Florida Youth Involved (FYI) that has some of the same general ideas. The YPI is their own separate group, apart from other IAFE com-
mittees, and instead of having one Chairperson, we have a Steering Committee to spearhead the group. The Steering Committee is made up of 1 member from each Zone, of which there are 8, and 2 Associate members. I, Leah Norris, am slated to become the new Zone 2 Representative at this year’s IAFE Convention in November. The Steering Committee’s duty is to plan events at Convention and other IAFE events, which we try to plan new and different things
every year. The YPI also likes to have some content in workshop and table topics that are geared for younger people in the industry to help them learn the ropes, and become better Fair professionals. Our greatest responsibility is for outreach to current and new members. The YPI is a way for young people to come together, net-
work with people in their age range, and to be mentored by veterans of the industry. I’m sure many of you can attest to the IAFE being a big, scary place the first few times you go. It can be doubly anxiety-riddled for a
young person that might not know a lot about the Fair industry, and surely doesn’t know a lot of people in the industry. I am very excited to be given this opportunity, and I hope to make my Fair, the Federation, my Zone, and the IAFE proud of al l the
things we accomplish. If you or someone at your Fair is interested in becoming part of IAFE’s Young Professionals Initiative (YPI) or Florida Youth Involved
