Yearling Sale Open Session Results
2012 CTHS Canadian-Bred
Rexdale, ON - As the 2012 CTHS Cana- dian-Bred Yearling Sale comes to a close, with the Open Session, the negative impacts of the Government’s announce- ment to end the Slots at Racetracks Pro- gram has become ever prevalent. It began with a 32% decrease in the number cata- logued for this session and by sale time another 12% were not offered for sale. Gross sales decreased dramatically by 61.29% as compared to 2011 figures. Both the average and the median were greatly affected as well with the average down 50.07% to $4,903 from $9,819 in 2011. The median decreased from $5,000 to $3,500 representing a 30% decline. Over the past decade since the CTHS has been involved in the Open Sale this year’s average and median are by far the lowest attained.
Topping the Open Session was Hip #374 purchased for $26,000 by Robert P. Tiller, Agent for Rolph Davis. The chest- nut colt by Giant Gizmo out of Great Gazoo was sold by Beth Hancock, Agent for Cedar Creek Farm.
The second highest priced yearling in this session was Hip #333 purchased for $23,000 by John Mattine, Agent for RCC Stable. The dark bay or brown filly by Giant Gizmo out of Bold Tigress was sold by Paradox Farm Inc., Agent for breeders Kurt & Kaethi Gsell.
The CTHS Ontario Division would like to extend a big thank you to all those who participated in this year’s sale and congratulate all for their perseverance in these uncertain times.

Vaughan Kenneth Sedore August 31, 1965 - August 27, 2012
On August 27, Vaughan Sedore passed away suddenly in his 46th year. Who was Vaughan you ask?
For many years he was a good friend who was ever quick to forgive and forever ready to lend a helping hand.
He was my go-to guy for help with my Mac, who rescued me many times from various computer emergencies. Vaughan was a graphics design- er extraordinaire who had a huge imagination and flare that showed through whether he was a design- ing magazine cover, advertisement or label. Over the years, he created our logos for The Rider and Orange aPEEL, which will always remind me of him.
He was known for his great sense of humour, infectious smile and love of music, especially the Beatles.
He taught himself to play piano and was amazing on a synthesizer but was always humble about it. My heartfelt sympathies go out to his loving wife Lisa, their chil- dren, Andrew and Lauren, his sister Jo-ell, and brother Geordon. He will also be sadly missed by other family and many friends whose lives he touched in so many ways, like me.
