There were miles of smiles on the faces at St. Peter’s at Chedoke Hospital during a spe- cial visit on August 5th. Kelly
Bowers, from The Rider, and her 18 year old daughter, Kath- lyn, brought their adorable 10 year old miniature horse, Diego, to visit the seniors. It is espe- cially meaningful to those who
remember having ponies and horses of their own when they were children.
Dozens of onlookers, young and young at heart, enjoyed getting up close and personal by touching, hugging, and talking to the 8 hh equine,
and some had questions which were answered by their visitors. As a bonus, Kelly took photos of the gathering which were given to organizers for the seniors and can also be seen on The Rider’s Photo Gallery found on Facebook.
The mother / daughter team from Caledonia began vis- iting the elderly as well as camps and fundraising events when Diego was 3 years old. In fact, St. Peter’s hosted Diego’s very first visitation in 2005 and he has been back nearly every
year since. The motivation has always been to do something nice by making the seniors a bit happier for an hour, but the secret is that it makes Diego and his people happy too.
