President’s Message
The Ontario Reining Horse Association had another full season of shows, with some great runs and impressive placings both here and in Quebec and the U.S.
Our show hosts did a wonderful job of opening up their facilities to ensure we got to enjoy our sport, and they deserve a huge thank you – the Fletchers of Fletchers Horse World, the Lubinski’s at Y Not Farms, the Yaghdjians at Pickering Horse Centre, and so do our Show Managers and show secre- taries - you are all heroes for what you do to keep these shows running smoothly. Our Youth members also had a good year, enjoying some fun and camaraderie, while also raising funds for their Associa- tion. The highlights were the group Fun- style they performed at the Fletchers show, with Sarah O’Grady winning the class on behalf of the youth, and the Egg Spoon race at Pickering Horse Centre, won by Taylor Mariani.
We saw a lot of new faces again this year, with some large Green As Grass class- es, so it is wonderful to see the growing
interest in the great sport of reining and we hope to see many more new reiners next year. For more information on reining, please check out

As you will see in this month’s issue of The Rider, elections are coming up again and my term as President is coming to an end in February. I have enjoyed my four years as Association President but it is time to get back to focussing on my horses and showing, and to free up some of my person- al time to focus on family and business, so I will not be standing for re-election. If you have a suggestion for a suitable candidate to take on this role, please let me know. All we have left now is the year-end awards banquet on November 3, which is always a great time and I hope to see you all there. Details will be posted on the ORHA website shortly, but if you would like to sponsor a year-end award, please call or email me.
Safe sliding. Carol

Pickering Show
The folks at The Pickering Horse Centre put on a fabulous show at the beginning of September, com- plete with a Saturday evening corn roast. The weather cooperated to give sunshine and hot temperatures throughout the weekend, and there was a good turnout of horses and riders. The full slate of classes included some exciting runs and impressive scores.
Mike Munroe did a superb job as Show Manager, and the Show Office staff - Wendy Dyer and Susan Aitken – were very efficient and kept the show run- ning smoothly throughout. This show also tested pre-
entries, something we hope to see at future shows. The Youth members ran a 50/50 draw and also offered a fun egg spoon race, won by Taylor Mariani. The winner of the 50/50 was Reba.
Becky Ros provided a special treat at Sunday’s lunch break when she served up birthday cake in hon- our of her daughter, Scarlett’s first birthday. And the Fletchers also offered cake to celebrate their trainer, Heather Vaughn’s birthday. Congratulations Gary and Danielle on another successful show.
