WYCHWOOD SCHOOL NEW HEADMISTRESS APPOINTMENT
Wychwood, the unique, small and friendly girls’ day and boarding school located in the heart of Oxford recently announced the appointment of a new Headmistress from September 2012. Mrs Andrea Johnson will succeed Mrs Sue Wingfield Digby when she retires at the end of the academic year.
Mrs Johnson is currently the Assistant Head at Tudor Hall School, a successful girls’ day and boarding school near Banbury. Mrs Johnson began her career as a chemistry teacher in a large comprehensive in Sunderland and rapidly progressed to Head of Science at Battle Abbey School, followed by Head of Physical Sciences at Tudor Hall. Besides her academic background, Mrs Johnson also has considerable experience in boarding and pastoral care having been a Housemistress during her time at both Battle Abbey and Tudor Hall.
On her appointment, Mrs Johnson said: “I am both honoured and thrilled at the prospect of becoming Head at Wychwood. In the spirit of Miss Lee, founder of Wychwood, I wholeheartedly believe in the “education of genuine girls, not imitation boys” and will do my utmost to ensure that the emphasis on the individual remains central to the school’s ethos. My aim is that the unique school that is Wychwood shall continue to flourish in the 21st Century.”
