gave me some solace, and I was able to be lost in my own thoughts and cares for a couple of hours.

After a lunch where we hosted the Advisory Council and some specially invited guests, some twenty of us boarded a bus to Winchester for sightseeing or retail therapy. This was thoroughly enjoyable, and the Cathedral was an absolute delight. Once the shops closed we trundled back to Amport for an evening of pizza and fun. There was a quiz, or watching Strictly Come Dancing or X Factor on TV. Pretty much whatever took your fancy. The

pizzas were delivered and were far too many. As was the dessert trolley.

I had a shorter run on Sunday morning, but energising nonetheless. Again, after a leisurely breakfast, a service of Holy Communion followed for those who wished to participate. Then we went into a question and answer session for all followed by a a full roast lunch before setting off for home.

I can say without a shadow of a doubt, I was very sceptical of what the RAF Widows could offer me, especially being a serving member of the RAF and classing welfare as one of my strengths. But I left with a sense of hope for the future.

I know that I can get through this horrible distressing period of my life and that, no matter how long it takes, I will survive. The company and support, which was offered at

every turn, by this wonderful group of people, have shown me that I will be able to live again, rather than just exist as I do at the moment.

I would advise any widow or widower who is going along this long bereavement journey, to accept the hand of friendship, courage and support from the RAF Widows, without hesitation. You may not feel ready for it now but at some point, you may just need to reach out and know that someone will be there for you.
