Above-ground pools have evolved, but they remain inventive options for people looking to own their first swimming pool. Installing them in- ground often increases the attraction and with high quality products, ease of installation and a great choice of shapes and sizes, it’s a market which is still flourishing

H

ow many people still think of swimming pools being an unaffordable dream? To many, owning a pool for the family to enjoy remains a far off ambition.

Yet nothing could be further from the truth, if you look in detail at one swimming pool option – the ever popular above-ground pool. It’s a product which continues to show impressive growth, not because of the affordable price tag but because it is so flexible, easy to use and is very simple to install.

These kinds of pool are no longer the limited one-dimension pools of 20 years ago, but come in a large assortment of styles, shapes and also colours which means the consumer has a great deal of choice when it comes to finding exactly the right option for fitting the pool into their property and garden.

For the price of a second hand car, or less, an

above-ground pool can offer nearly all the benefits of in-ground solutions but at a fraction of the cost – and that includes efficient heaters and water filters.

It’s a market which in tough financial times still manages to thrive and quite properly gets a lot of attention from manufacturers and retailers who know they can make the idea of a swimming pool which fits perfectly into a garden a reality for families looking to invest in their home. The speed of installations is currently a big theme with customers. One retailer told us: “I’ve a number of people who want a pool for this summer and want it quickly. I think a lot of people who come in to look at above-ground pools appreciate they will not put people off buying a house in the way that an in-ground swimming pool sometimes can do. Sellers can take the pool with them.”

An above-ground pool of course does not have to remain above-ground. It can be fully or partially sunk into the ground or have decking placed around it to give the appearance of an in-ground alternative. The pool can also be moved to another part of the garden. And, of course, above- ground pools do not require planning permission. They are destined to remain at the low end of the market, affordable and a top attraction for young families.

The choice on the market reflects the potential for many more above-ground pool sales.
