Power capability is up to
A fleet of five Modutech Marine ferries has been fitted with Western Marine Wesmar V2-12 hydraulic bow thrusters to improve manoeuvrability and control. Since 2010 the
1,000kW and full 369 degree rotation can be achieved with electrical or hydraulic actuation. Further frame sizes of the thruster are currently under development.
vessels have been carrying visitors to and from the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbour, Hawaii. The 22m vessels are powered by two Cummins OSB 5.9 HD engines
These products will add to the existing Masson range of propulsion packages and auxiliary drive systems in the range of 300kW to 10,000kW.

running on biodiesel and can carry 149 passengers per trip. The thruster upgrade was an important element of the vessel specification as berthing often has to be carried out in strong side winds. In addition, the time saved during departures and dockings is significant to the operation, with each ferry making 16 round trips per day. It is estimated that the
thrusters have reduced turnaround time by three minutes per trip, which adds up to savings of approximately 30 days per ferry each year. This is a considerable benefit with annual visitor numbers exceeding 1.5 million.
