Cruises on 16 February. Viking Njord is the first of eight ‘longships’ that will join the operator’s current 26-strong fleet in service. The 2,671gt vessel is due to be joined by sistership, Viking Idun. In March Viking Freya and Viking Odin will also join the fleet. They will be followed later by four more. 2,400gt Viking Prestige delivered last year but which is a completely different design. Robert Laade, project manager at Neptun Werft, said, “The whole hull design is different. For example, in the public spaces different materials have been used. Much more glass has been used but moreover, the design and layout are completely different. Furthermore, this ship has been equipped with cabins executed with full balconies.” Viking Prestige has French balconies, but Viking


Njord has French on one side and full balconies on the other side. Mr Laade continued, “The challenge is that the main and the upper deck of the ship are not symmetrical anymore. We have to co-ordinate all the cables, piping and ducts for the air conditioning, etc, accordingly. Mostly this could be done in the
