WHAT TO EXPECT YOUR EXPERIENCE IS AT THE HEART OF EVERYTHING WE DO
The Route and Terrain Our carefully researched routes generally follow quiet, traffic-free backroads, with some off-road sections on cycle paths or dirt tracks. We avoid busy roads wherever possible.
The Bikes Unlike many other tour operators, we include the hire of your bike in the overall cost of the holiday: you don’t need to bring your own or pay extra to hire one locally. We provide high quality mountain bikes or hybrid touring bikes, depending on the route and terrain.
The Support Vehicle On all our trips we have a support vehicle stationed close by to provide back-up in case it’s needed. We take care of moving your luggage from one hotel to the next, so while you are cycling all you carry is what you need during the day.
Cycling in a Group With Explore you cycle in a small and friendly group, normally between 10 and 16 people, along with your Tour Leader. Depending on the tour, the conditions and the terrain, you may cycle all together or break into smaller groups for certain sections or even full days.
Travelling Solo Explore tours are great for solo travellers, in fact half of each group join the trip on their own. Being part of a small and flexible group makes it easy to fit in and friendships form quickly, especially on activity-based holidays. You can choose either to share a twin room with another solo traveller or to pay extra for your own room.
Safety and Comfort We strongly recommend you wear a helmet while cycling and in certain countries it is compulsory. We do not provide helmets, so please bring your own. We also recommend cycle gloves, glasses and padded shorts or a gel saddle. For more information about clothing and equipment please see our trip notes.
Accommodation We normally stay in small, comfortable, family-run hotels and guesthouses. Our policy is to plan the route and then find accommodation to fit: not the other way round. So in the hills of northern India for example we camp, while in the wilds of Iceland we stay in mountain huts.
