CYCling CoASt to CoASt


On this cycling trip we ride 225 kilometres from Whitehaven on the Irish Sea to Tynemouth on the North Sea. Cycle through some of the wildest and most spectacular landscapes in the north of England; discovering the dramatic beauty of the Lake District, Eden Valley and the rugged North Pennines.


ITINERARY


Day 1 Join the tour in Whitehaven. Day 2 Wheel dipping ceremony After the customary wheel dipping ceremony ride east towards the Lake District National Park. Day 3 The Pennines Ride from Greystoke to Allenheads across the Pennines on quiet country back-roads. Day 4 To the North Sea Cycle along disused railways, designated cycle paths and along the banks of the Tyne, passing through the heart of Newcastle Quayside with views of the famous bridges. Ride to the fishing village of Tynemouth for the final wheel dipping ceremony in the North Sea.

Route and Terrain: On this tour we cycle 225 km over three days (an average of 75 km per day). Our route follows bike trails along disused railway lines and quiet back roads with some short sections on main roads. There is vehicle back up for emergencies. We have graded the route as strenuous.

Day 1 Fly to Palma and drive to Port de Pollenca. Day 2 Formentor Peninsula Try out the bikes on this stunning and hilly peninsula that juts out into the Mediterranean. Day 3 Mallorcan Villages We follow the Campanet Valley then take a series of small and winding back roads through the foothills that link several little known and photogenic typical villages. Day 4 Tramuntana Traverse Drive to Sant Batia Pass – the highest point on the old pilgrim route from Caimari to Lluc. From here cycle across steep and challenging mountain scenery before an exhilarating descent and back to the hotel. Day 5 Albufera National Park Today is left free to explore Palma by public bus or cycle to the Albufera wetlands reserve, home to over 300 species of bird. Day 6 Wine Country of the Pla Ride a long but mainly flat route that takes you through different aspects of the Mallorcan countryside. From the developed coast we cycle past wetlands and through the central plain and wine growing area

On this cycling trip we explore the rugged and often dramatic terrain of Mallorca’s Tramuntana range and foothills. Centre- based in the bay of Port de Pollenca, we offer a variety of cycle rides to discover picturesque villages, impressive mountains and the Formentor Peninsula for coastal scenery.
