CYCLe ALBANIA


Discover the highlights of this fascinating off the beaten track destination from the saddle. Cycle uphill through the scenic Llogora Pass, where the Adriatic meets the Ionian Sea. Enjoy an exhilarating downhill coastal ride along the turquoise Albanian Riviera and explore villages, gorges and canyons as well as the Albania’s rich cultural heritage through its archaeological ruins. If you feel adventurous, leave the bike and go rafting in Osumi Canyon for a thrilling end to your trip!


ITINERARY


Day 1 Fly to Tirana; transfer to Llogora. Day 2 Llogora National Park After a short uphill towards Llogora Pass, we descend the mountain and enjoy stunning sea views. Cycle to Qeparo through monasteries and coastal villages; overnight in a guesthouse by the beach. Day 3 Albanian Riviera Cycle through the villages of Piqeras and Lukova towards the Butrint Lagoon, where we visit the archaeological park. Day 4 Muzina Pass We leave the coast and cycle inland, stopping for a visit to the Blue Eye spring. After an uphill climb to Muzina Pass, we enjoy a downhill ride with beautiful views over the surrounding plains and mountains. Day 5 Permet We cycle along the Drino River and the Kelcyra Gorge, across steep slopes, fine pastures and valleys. Day 6 Skrapar We take a village road to the remote Skrapar region. This is an opportunity to visit the local villages of shepherds and farmers en route to the magnificent Canyon of Osumi. Day 7 Berat We cycle following the quiet stream of the Osumi river amidst pastures, fields, fruit terraces and pine forest which contrast with the imposing slopes of the sacred Tomori mountain. We head to Berat and spend our last night in the historic neighbourhood of Mangalemi. Day 8 Transfer to the airport and fly to the UK.

Route and Terrain: On this tour we cycle 365 km over six days (an average of 61 km per day), We mainly use quiet, undulating roads although there will be several steeper sections on tarmac. A support vehicle escorts this trip throughout. We have graded the route as moderate to strenuous.
