CHOOSING YOUR CYCLING ADVENTURE
We have a wide range of cycling tours in over 30 countries. To help you choose the right tour we’ve given each trip a cycle grade and a comfort rating. These are listed in the details section for each tour.
CYCLE GRADES
We have graded all our cycling adventures to help you choose the right trip. You will also find more detailed information about the terrain and the bikes on individual tour pages, as well as charts showing the daily cycling distances in kilometres.
Easy Short rides, up to about 4 hours (or 45 kilometres) per day, mainly on flat or gently undulating terrain. You don’t have to be a regular cyclist but you should be reasonably fit and active. Easy grade trips are ideal if you simply want to explore a region by bike at a relaxed pace.
Moderate
Medium duration rides, up to about 6 hours (or 65 kilometres) per day, often on undulating routes with occasional more challenging climbs. There may be some easy off-road sections. You will enjoy these trips if you are moderately fit and cycle regularly at the weekend.
Strenuous
These are longer and hillier routes, so you need to be fit and well prepared. Daily distances vary depending on the amount of ascent, but we normally ride for six hours or more each day. There may be some off-road sections but these are not technical. Ideal for keen cyclists looking for a more challenging ride.
Tough Tough grade cycling takes us into more demanding terrain, with long and sometimes steep ascents and descents, possibly on difficult surfaces and maybe at high altitudes. To enjoy these trips you should have plenty of previous experience and a high level of fitness and mental stamina.
Higher quality hotels, lodges or guesthouses, with more comfortable bedrooms, en suite bathrooms and often other facilities such as restaurants, bars and a swimming pool.
COMFORT RATINGS
We’ve given each tour a comfort rating so that you have a better idea of the type of accommodation you will be staying in at the end of your day in the saddle! They are intended to help you compare one trip against another.
RATINGS
Simple local accommodation; typically hostels, pensions or teahouses that are clean and comfortable and usually have shared facilities. Alternatively it could be a campsite with showers and toilets, and a support crew to help out with camp chores.
Hotels and guesthouses (often family run) with en-suite bathrooms but lacking other facilities such as bars and restaurants.
SOLO DEPARTURES
Some of our cycle tours have departure dates that are reserved for solo travellers. We have shown where this is an option on the individual tours.
