CYCLE ICELAND

Explore some of Iceland’s most remote mountain tracks by bike from the wild centre all the way to the south coast. Ride along black deserts, contrasted by towering, green volcanoes and the white winter coats of numerous glaciers. Camp at remote mountain lakes, bathe in natural hot springs and experience the serenity that can only be found in pure, unspoilt nature.

ITINERARY

Day 1 Fly to Reykjavík. Day 2 Golden Circle Visit Pingvellir National Park, Geysir hot springs and the Gullfoss waterfall. Then take a highland road drive to Langisjor lake. Optional evening walk to Sveinstindur peak, offering on clear days views of Europe’s biggest glacier. Day 3 On your bike Our track is a remote mountain road that is guarded by volcanoes and dotted by little lakes in the vast highland plateau and desert. Day 4 Highlands We enter the true arctic desert, the landscape becomes rougher than before and the terrain turns into pitch black volcanic ash, coloured occasionally by brilliantly green mountains, rising up from the dunes. Bathe in a natural hot pool hidden deep in the mountains. Day 5 Desert Take in the moonlike landscape of Mælifellssandur highland desert. Day 6 On foot Leaving the bikes for a day we head out on foot. The landscape starts to change; we’ll be seeing peaceful streams covered in arctic birch and flowers. Day 7 To Reykjavik Today we will explore Pórsmörk and bike out of this beautiful glacier carved valley. Drive to Reykjavík. Day 8 Free day Explore Reykjavík City, visit the Blue Lagoon or even try snorkelling between the continents. Day 9 Fly to London.
