KITCHENS AND BATHROOMS The award winning
Splashblade Thanks to its innovative product, which improves safety and saves costs in the bathroom, a Sheffield company has won the Small Business Award in The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) Celebrating Construction in South Yorkshire Awards 2011 – the company’s second award from the CIOB. The awards’ judges were impressed by Splashblade Products' solution to the problem of water escaping past shower curtains, not only making floors dangerous but also causing expensive damage. It was company’s managing director, Gary Daly who thought there had to be a way of eradicating this nuisance and had the idea of the Splashblade. The Splashblade is simply an elegant powder-coated white, matt or chrome-finished aluminum strip with a stainless steel insert and neat silicone beading. This fixes to the wall adjacent to the showerhead in less than five minutes, using industrial 'grab' adhesive tape to provide a clean and permanent solution. The Splashblade is then attached to the showercurtain by specially designed magnets. For more information telephone 07970 807 832 or visit

Aqualux to Improving inclusivity
Moto, provider of motorway services, is helping lead the way in the drive for inclusivity, with the opening of the first Changing Places toilet on the motorway network. The facility has been supplied by leading disabled toilet provider and sponsor of the Changing Places campaign Total Hygiene, for main contractor Galliford Try, at Cherwell Valley Services on the M40 in Oxfordshire, which has been rebuilt following a fire in 2010. The Changing Places toilet provides appropriate facilities for people who need the help of at least one carer. Larger than a conventional accessible toilet, it includes a hoist and height adjustable changing bench. Moto has further included a height adjustable washbasin and peninsular Clos- o-Mat Palma ‘wash and dry’ toilet; looking like a traditional WC, the Clos-o-Mat has integral douche and drying facilities, eliminating the need to wipe clean after toileting, helping improve hygiene, privacy and dignity for the user. the rescue Aqualux were delighted to be approached for the second time to supply an Organic Walk-In shower surround to the Channel Five television programme, Cowboy Builders, for use in a stylish refurbishment project. The show provides makeovers to families whose homes have been ruined by incompetent builders. In the episode, Simon and Diane from Guildford had fallen victim to the dangerous workmanship of a serial cowboy builder, leaving them with a freezing cold house due to a poorly fitted roof, as well as potentially lethal structural issues. Now, however, they have a beautiful new home including a luxurious en-suite bathroom complete with an Aqualux Organic Walk-In shower surround. The Organic Walk-In was specifically requested by the designer on the show, who wanted to give Simon and Diane a stylish bathroom retreat, the shower also needed to be spacious enough to allow lots of room for Diane, who suffers from chronic rheumatoid arthritis. With the expansive, curved shapes of the conjoined bathing and drying areas, complete with a beautiful and sturdy bamboo footboard, the Organic Walk-In was the ideal choice.
