CONTRACTS AND PROJECTS
City Park CTS Bridges based in Huddersfield has just completed a new timber Boardwalk in the nearby town of Bradford, West Yorkshire. The 109m long x 3.9m wide boardwalk was manufactured in durable FSC accredited Ekki hardwood timber and utilised both the Hi-Grip Excel non-slip deck on the slopes and the Hi-Grip Standard grooved deck on the flat areas of the boardwalk. The boardwalk was edged with 150 x 400mm sections of FSC Ekki to provide a hard-wearing kerb around the perimeter of the boardwalk.CTS completed the boardwalk in time for Christmas 2011 for main contractor Birse Civils on behalf of their client, Bradford City Council. The six-acre park surrounding the Grade 1 listed City Hall in Centenary Square in the heart of Bradford is a place to meet, walk, talk and relax. The new park features the largest city-centre water feature in any UK city and is just part one of a 15-year city regeneration project to transform Bradford. The new boardwalk surrounds the mirror pool which includes fountains and water jets. For more information telephone 01484 606 416, email

in the hotel sector Last December a Topping Out Ceremony took place at a new hotel overlooking Hyde Park. The Wellesley is destined to be London’s first six-star hotel and will feature 1920’s Art Deco themes, Europe’s largest cigar humidor and heated terrace, and a whisky and cognac wall in the Crystal Bar. There will also be an intimate Jazz Bar in keeping with the sites heritage, which previously hosted such talents as Amy Winehouse. Kevin Quinn, BTP Director, says “The Wellesley will redefine luxury in the hotel sector. We’ve addressed some unique technical challenges due to its location over the former Hyde Park Place Tube Station, and the proximity of some very high profile neighbours. Now that the structure is complete, we’re focused on the final construction phase.” BTP are the Project Managers and Quantity Surveyors, working with Brookfield Multiplex

panels using matching coloured rivets, to create a stunning upper level to the building. The 8mm Trespa facades which were pre-fabricated from Kingspan's Sherburn facility were selected in Sun Yellow, Pacific, Cyclam, Lavender Blue, Mineral Blue and Spring Green, installed in a portrait format to create a chequered effect. The construction of the £7.3 million facility was overseen by main contractors Laing O'Rourke and forms part of Salford City Council's wider plans for redevelopment within Higher Broughton, with the Hub aimed at providing a centre point to the local community by offering a range of social and sport services. RECONOMY FORMS PARTNERSHIP WITH BALFOUR BEATTY
Reconomy, a leader in outsourced waste management and recycling services, has signed a new sole supplier agreement with Balfour Beatty Group for the supply of skip services across all its operating companies. The new sole supplier agreement was awarded after Reconomy undertook an in-depth review of all Balfour Beatty expenditure on waste management. As well as looking to consolidate the supply base across all Balfour Beatty businesses and reduce overall spend on waste, a key driver in this process was for Reconomy to demonstrate accurate capture of data to support the delivery of Balfour Beatty’s 2020 sustainability vision. In this respect, the Reconomy Portal is unique by providing real-time twenty-four-seven monitoring and control of waste. For more information visit
