ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS

Renewables must be made an easier option

Mitsubishi Electric is using its stand at the Ecobuild Show (20-22 March 2012, ExCel, London) to call for manufacturers to make renewable technology more readily accessible and easier to understand for building and home-owners. The company, which manufactures heat pumps, Photovoltaic systems, heat recovery ventilation and advanced air conditioning, will exhibit several live products on its stand (S3410) to allow visitors to see the benefits and ease of use of currently available technologies. The company’s stand will include working air conditioning units and a live Ecodan air source heat pump and British-made cylinder, in addition to several of the commercial heating range of heat pumps, heat recovery ventilation systems and Photovoltaic panels – including Mitsubishi Electric’s unique PV Pack. Also on display will be the specially designed Big Foot and K2 frames for PV systems and the Fronius Inverter. For more information telephone 01236 312 451.

Rehau windows

in Passivhaus office The East Midlands regional office for Interserve Construction Ltd is one of the first zero carbon offices in the UK to be fully certified to Passivhaus standard. In air tightness tests, it achieved an air change rate of just 0.44 per hour at 50 Pa, well within the Passivhaus limit of 0.6. Much of this air tightness can be attributed to the use of Passivhaus certified REHAU GENEO triple-glazed windows and external doors throughout the building, fabricated and installed by Solar Windows.

Twenty-seven windows and four doors were fabricated for the £1.5million, 680sqm office, the majority of which were installed across its south facing aspect to increase solar gain in winter and minimise the requirement to generate additional heat. The new 86mm REHAU GENEO window is manufactured using the 100 percent recyclable RAU-FIPRO fibre composite material, which is similar to the kinds of fire composites already used extensively in aircraft construction and Formula 1 design. Triple glazed and Krypton filled at Interserve, the windows achieve Uw values as low as 0.73W/m²K. For more information visit www.rehau.co.uk

Access upgrade

As part of a £100million development programme, travellers to Birmingham Airport now benefit from a new, state of the art terminal, which is easily accessed from the main concourse through a double set of iMotion bi-parting sliding doors installed and maintained by TORMAX UK Ltd. The new ‘One Terminal’ is the result of a merge of the Airport’s two existing terminals into a single facility to improve overall operational capabilities and customer experience. TORMAX was specified for access at One Terminal through H&H Architectural Systems. With this entrance scheduled to experience extremely high levels of daily foot traffic, TORMAX recommended their iMotion 2401 operator. One of the most advanced automatic doors solutions on the market today, iMotion represents low energy, sustainable automation

without any compromise on functionality or reliability. Designed specifically for busy locations, the 2401 operator incorporates a high torque synchronous motor that has no abrading parts. For more information email sales@tormax.co.uk or visit www.tormax.co.uk

MEETING TOMORROW’S ECO TARGETS TODAY

Wilo has launched the Wilo-Stratos GIGA here in the UK. It’s the first high efficiency glanded pump and is targeted specifically at the building services and industry sectors. The Wilo-Stratos GIGA offers specifiers the chance to easily optimise the energy costs and environmental balance of a building or industrial complex. With its hydraulic output and specification, the new Wilo- Stratos GIGA is ideal for commercial, industrial and residential buildings. Due to the combination of new hydraulics with a new highly efficient drive concept (HED – High Efficiency Drive) the Wilo-Stratos GIGA offers major energy saving benefits. Specifying the GIGA for your projects will result in a saving of emissions amounting to approximately 8,000kg CO2 per year. For more information head for www.wilo.co.uk
