Georgia is currently trying to prevent any construction of casinos and entertainment centres in Abkhazia for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games. The government has sent a letter to the National Olympic Committee and sports ministry of Georgia to prevent such developments. Georgia’s government says the development of ice and snow facilities for the Games are damaging the local environment, but did not want to boycott the games per se.
