• NET HOLDING Merit Hotels. This company’s history dates back to the foundation of Net Tourism A.S in 1974 which was a group of entrepreneurial partners who opened their first shop in Istanbul. Further shops followed and Net Holding was founded in 1981. The Istanbul based company began to develop hotels, property, duty free shop management, coffee chains and other sectors and became a leader in the gambling sector through its 17 casinos. It is now Turkey’s largest tourist conglomerate. Merit Tourism Investment and Establishments was founded in 1988 to develop the hotel sector and today operates the Merit Hotels in Cyprus – the Merit Crystal Cove Hotel, the Mercure Resort and the Merit Lefkosa in Nicosia. The company is also investing in two further projects due to be completed by 2015 – the Merit Afrodit Hotel which is located next to Crystal Cove and Merit Mare Monte.


• PASHA GROUP OF COMPANIES is a casino and hotel group which operates in Northern Cyprus, Uganda and Suriname. The group has the Golden Tulip Nicosia Hotel and Casino and Platinum Casino in Nicosia and the Acapulco Casino in Kyrenia. The group also operates sports betting in Cyprus.


casinos in northern cyPrus KYRENIA (GIRNE) Apart from the capital, Nicosia, this is the main town in northern Cyprus and is the centre of the tourism industry. It attracts thousands of visitors each year. It is a pretty town set around an ancient harbour and castle and is home to some of the best hotels on the island many of which offer casinos.


ACAPULCO HOTEL AND CASINO is located in the Acapulco Holiday Village in Catalkoy and is a five star resort and the hotel has 229 rooms and was opened in 1982. The casino has 85 slots and 12 table games including Texas Hold em, American Roulette, bingo and poker. It is operated by Pasha Gaming.


CELEBRITY CASINO is a hotel opened in 1975 and is found to the west of Kyrenia. The complex was built and run by the same family and is now under English management, but both the hotel and the casino have seen better days. It now mainly seems to operate as a meeting place for the English expatriate community. The casino is located downstairs in the Celebrity Hotel and offers slots and table games.


COLONY SPORTING CLUB is located in the luxurious Colony Hotel in downtown Kyrenia which was opened in 2003. There are 100 slots in the lobby and up

CRATOS PREMIUM CASINO is a new casino and is 4,000 sq.m in size and themed on an Egyptian style amphitheatre. There are 267 slots and 34 table games including 11 American Roulette, 20 card game tables, one Punto Banco and two Texas Hold em. The hotel has a total of 258 rooms with 35 different concepts and six accommodation options. The hotel also offers a spa, fitness centre and swimming pool.
