it was not that we ran into each other three times in one day that astonished her the most, but that we both drove a Nissan. We shared a good laugh. Galiano Island is the perfect choice for a weekend getaway or mid-week escape – a chance to be lulled back to an earlier time when life sailed along at a much slower pace. The laid-back atmosphere of this quaint island destination is just a short 55-minute ferry ride from the Tsawwassen terminal. The ferry arrives at the southern end of Galiano Island, at Sturdies Bay, which is the island’s commercial centre.

The intimate Galiano Inn, on
the ocean’s edge, stands ready to welcome you with a luxurious spa, gourmet dining; and accommodations with wood-burning fireplaces, large sitting area, soaker tubs with Jacuzzi and, of course, a stunning ocean view. They now also have a brand new dock! The dock is available from late spring to early autumn to provide moorage for overnight guests and for boaters wanting to have dinner or just enjoy a

casual wood-fired oven pizza lunch on the outdoor terrace. Sit back and be seduced by the West Coast ambiance of stone fireplaces, polished wood floors, beamed ceilings and great huge windows framing the ever-changing vista of ocean, mountain and trees! With a focus on fresh coastal foods and local farm-grown ingredients, the chef delights guests nightly in the dining room. As the moon slowly rises over neighbouring Mayne Island with the twinkling lights of ferries passing by, you are right in the heart of the prefect setting for a magical dinner.
One popular event on the island is the annual open-air wine festival held every August. The day includes a bounty of wine tasting, fresh-made foods and great island entertainment. At this wine festival, you will not have to suffer through long waits for wines that you want to taste and there is plenty of opportunity to talk with the vintners who are happy to tell you all about their wines. Exploring the “downtown” is fun and easy to do. Within just a short amble from the Galiano Inn, you’ll find
