A LETTER FROM LEADERSHIP

Theatre and the arts have always been a part of my life, largely due to an early curiosity that was cultivated by great arts opportunities in my school. We are living through challenging times for school budgets, and it saddens me that those opportunities I was able to enjoy aren’t available for so many of our public school students. That’s why our Board of Directors and our whole institution are committed to Education@Roundabout and why it remains a core value for our company.

As you look at the following pages, I hope you’ll gain a comprehensive snapshot of the year, but I also hope you’ll leave room for imagining the possibilities. The theatre is where I found my leadership voice; imagine the kind of long-term impact our programs have on these students. We could have a future artistic director in our midst; a future engineer that was inspired by a scenic design workshop; or maybe we’ve cultivated a lifelong theatre-lover. Thank you for supporting Education@Roundabout and enabling our theatre to be a platform for new possibilities.

As this report illustrates, 2010/11 has been a year marked with significant achievements. Education@Roundabout’s programs are helping kids stay in school, stay motivated and enhance their curriculums. Our programs are not only about taking kids to the theatre, but about giving them skills to achieve on a broader level. Students and teachers report that they are becoming leaders, learning to take risks and collaborating with their peers.

Whether engaging in a conversation with the cast of Anything Goes or producing their own production at Roundabout’s Black Box Theatre, students are given access to the full range of resources Roundabout has available as New York City’s 18th largest cultural organization. As a not-for-profit institution, we are committed to serving our community, students, teachers and patrons alike. Thank you for your continued interest and support.
