The Harford Train

The Harford Train’s presence at exhibitions began a few years ago as a bit of fun to lighten the gravitas of an industrial show. Harford Control chose the train as a fun way to display the functionality of their on line data capture line performance and vision systems. The company has also come to appreciate that their train is far more symbolic of who they are, what they do and why they exist. Businesses, like trains, are on a journey, but in their case it’s a journey of discovery and continuous performance improvement. The Harford Train needs an engine (leadership), and of course it needs its carriages (followers) all of which need to remain well connected for the entire journey. Statistics show that more than 70 per cent of factory floor information management system initiatives fail or fail to deliver anticipated benefits. Either the leadership vision becomes uncoupled from the followers, gets derailed, or, hits the buffers. The Harford Train is an icon of what can happen when the leadership and followers are in harmony and all pull in the same direction. 8For more information call 01225 764461, email sales@harfordcontrol.com or visit www.harfordcontrol.com.

A new generation

VC999 Packaging Systems were proud to debut its new i series thermoformer at the show this year. The i series was designed with life cycle cost in mind. This new system keeps cost of ownership low with open source parts, lower utility cost, fewer moving parts and lower part consumption. This new generation of thermoformer offers many new and unique features, such as easy to navigate HMI, which operates on an industrial PC connected via embedded XP software. There is also the servo drive, which is controlled from in-feed system functions without trapeze rollers or a dancer arm. This minimises contamination and automates the tension control system. The i series also features easy and quick access to all areas, including easy accessibility to the high flow vacuum valve and swing-out pneumatics. Also, the series’ operating systems are ultra-high speed with a one gigabyte Ethernet Field Bus CC link IE field, which, according VC999, is ten times faster than any other thermoformer on the market. 8For more information call 01604 643999, email info@vc999.co.uk or visit www.vc999.co.uk.
