ayex Technology Ltd., a subsidiary of Jayex Group Ltd., is headquartered in London, with offices in Paris. The company specialises in advanced LED and LCD information display systems, queue management and touch screen self-check- in and patient call display solutions. It offers its customers a designated account manager who provides a detailed advice and consultation service, and employs software engineers tasked with ensuring customers are provided with the latest technical solutions best suited for their specific needs.

Modern methodology

Within the healthcare sector, the company is a leading player in the self-check-in systems and patient call displays market, with approximately 6000 current user sites. One of Jayex Technology’s most notable recent projects within healthcare has involved system supply and integration work undertaken at Ysbyty Aneurin Bevan (Aneurin Bevan Hospital), the new Local General Hospital for Blaenau Gwent in Wales. The hospital wanted to deploy six LCD screen Patient Calling systems for its Outpatients Department. Jain Agam of Jayex Technology pointed out that the new hospital did not want to adopt the older

method of individually fetching patients from waiting areas, as there were now multiple main waiting rooms to contend with. “The distance between the main waiting rooms themselves, as well as main and sub-wait areas, meant they would have lost many hours every day if staff had to walk to fetch patients,” explained Agam.

Better patient tracking Benefits of the patient calling systems include operational time savings, streamlined processes and more efficient and accurate tracking of patients. Additionally, the patient information screens keep patients updated on general health as well as ad hoc clinic messages (if

running late, etc.). “Patient calling enables them to move patients from main to sub- wait area quickly,” said Agam. “The solution software also allows them to track the patient journey: main waiting area, physical measurement room, sub wait area 1, 2 or 3, consultation room, etc.).” Agam added that Jayex Technology has been involved in a number of tasks at the new hospital; including project management, hardware install, set up and training – along with HL7 interface development.

Jayex Technology delivered this project on fairly tight timescale by working together with Trust resources as well as its own development team. “In order for the system

to work successfully we needed to accommodate their needs in terms of translating their manual processes into automated processes,” explained Agam. “We needed to engage with high-level staff as well as end users (nurses) to ensure we understood their needs properly and to get their ‘buy in’ for the system.” Agam said it took several meetings to narrow down the process and ensure everyone was happy. “They have been using the system for almost a year and when we had a review meeting, they advised it would be very difficult if not impossible for them to work without the system,” he said.

Further developments

Jayex Technology is now looking to deploy its systems at another new hospital within this health board. The health board is now looking to roll out Jayex Technology’s self- check-in systems into both hospitals once it moves to the new Patient Administration System (PAS). These will use the IBM kiosk with the Jayex Enlighten application integrated with the PAS system. 
