Retr NOVEMBER 2011 8 Exclusive News:

The Great Land Grab

• Sport to go to the Valleys • Cyncoed & Caerleon to be sold off for residential development

By Retro’s Education Correspondent

Retro can exclusively report that it has learned from its sources that the University of Glamorgan through a merger planning committee has identified that it would need to sell off the major capital assets of Cyncoed and Caerleon if they were to take over the two institutions of Cardiff Metropolitan University and Newport University.

These plans would result in all sports courses being transferred to it valleys campus and the Cyncoed land potentially

being sold off for residential development in a carpet bagging move to generate funds. Sources at Newport University have also confirmed to Retro that they see the sale of the Caerleon campus as inevitable as well should the controversial proposals go ahead. .Such a move would leave Newport University with just its new city centre operation.

The loss of the Cyncoed campus would be a major blow to the city of Cardiff and would lose a heritage which has seen this School produce world class athletes , Olympic Gold Medallists
