Strong Start is the Aim of the Game for UWIC Football

The men’s football first team earned a convincing win in their opening BUCS game of the season with an 8-0 flattening of league rivals Bristol, the prestige of winning the tournament remains the most important focus for the team at the start of this year’s campaign.


Manager Christian Edwards said that this would be the match that set’s the tone for the rest of the season, hoping for a string of successive wins during his team’s first five fixtures in the BUCS competition. The focus on a strong start has been paramount during pre-season games building


on their achievements as a whole last year, including a fantastic run in the Welsh cup getting to the quarter finals of the competition for the first time in the university’s history.


Last year UWIC both won and lost to Bristol 3-1 at home and 5-3 away, results that attest to the high tempo and physicality of the football match when the two sides meet. At the start of this season key players are back for UWIC to provide the core foundations to the team unit, valuable experience that solidifies a belief that this is their year for BUCS promotion. Ed Jones is back from injury, along with Tristan Daffyds and Steve
