The revolutionary combination was unveiled recently at the SALTEX exhibition and interest was high. “Professional users and amateurs alike know

that a chainsaw can lose its cutting edge simply by touching a stone, soil or metal. It is a tedious and skilled job to resharpen manually and you can be off the job for a long time, which is the main complaint we hear from customers. “The PowerSharp attachment simply clips into two holes on the special guide bar with the PowerSharp chain, and the sharpening action is activated by pressing the attachment against a solid object while running the chainsaw. A petrol saw will be back in the cut in no more than 3-5 seconds. Problem solved.” Oregon launched PowerSharp in the UK earlier this year, and it is already available from more than 200 dealers across the country.
Komatsu’s MaxiXplorer control system to improve communication
Komatsu has developed a control system for harvester heads being used with simple excavators.
The MaxiXplorer Head control system has many advanced functions, but is simple to use and easy to install. It is a combined software and hardware kit that consists of a system computer, a PC, a display, joysticks, and all fixtures and fittings. The interface is Windows based, which makes it familiar to many operators and support personnel. The MaxiXplorer Head is able to control
pressures and flows of the hydraulic systems used on different carriers. Settings can easily be navigated and changed on the wireless
ergonomic keyboard. Processing is controlled using a choice of two different types of ergonomic joysticks. All the important functions normally found in the control systems of Komatsu’s wheeled forest machine are included. These include the anti-slip system, optimised cross-cutting, and a database management system for production data, tree size data and operation reports. Optimised cross-cutting can be carried out using a simple tool which allows log price lists to be created. The system accepts an unlimited number of assortments, as well as length and diameter classes. Provision is also made for multi-tree accumulation, switches between the top and
The PowerSharp has contractors back on the job with a sharp chain in 3-5 seconds
“The Efco and PowerSharp combination is a market first,” Managing Director of Oregon distributor, Blount UK, Alan Warburton said. “Customer feed-back about the combination package is extremely encouraging. They benefit from a healthy discount compared to buying the saw and PowerSharp system separately.”

Mecanil has introduced a multi-function grapple (available in four models ) with a saw and shear for felling.
The shear (cutting knife) is used to fell very small trees, while the saw is used for larger trees. The XG220 is a combination of two of Mecanil’s existing products, namely the EG250 energy- wood felling head and the SG220 saw- grapple. The XG220 also works well as a conventional loading grapple. Mecanil has designed the grapple to be robust, yet lightweight and requiring
little oil flow. Installation is simple due to the limited hydraulic requirements. It can be installed on harvesters, forwarders and excavators. The XG220 is also available with a self-
powered wireless remote control. The patented remote control does not require battery changes, as it is charged when the felling head is in use. This further simplifies installation of the felling grapple, as no electrical wires need to be installed on the crane.
