Trevor McCartney, director of business deve- lopment, QNCC, runs Meetme through the facility’s key selling points and explains what impact it will have on the region’s meetings industry.

What will be the main features/USPs of the new QNCC? QNCC will offer the largest exhibition space in Qatar and one of the largest in the region – 40,000 square metres to accommodate large shows/events and can be converted into smaller functional spaces to suit every occasion. Here are the key features: • 57 fully serviced and configurable meeting rooms of various sizes offer the flexibility to cater for all types of events ranging from breakout rooms, board meetings, annual general meetings, training and team building exercises.

• Built as part of the convention centre are three auditoriums and a 2,300-capacity theatre with the latest acoustic technologies to house anything from world-class theatrical productions to international plenary sessions.

•QNCC has been built with the capability and capacity to host multiple events simultaneously, each with their own separate access and function spaces.

•Each room or space has been designed with a wireless conference management system to provide seamless operations for organisers.

• All meeting rooms are equipped with 108-inch LCD screens (min. size).

GREEN CREDENTIALS

The QNCC is the first facility of its kind to be built to the gold certification of the US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED).

Aesthetics aside, QNCC has been conceived with a focus on

sustainability. It is the first convention and exhibition centre of its kind being built to US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) standards with more than 3,500 square metres of solar panels providing 12.5 percent of the centre’s energy needs. QNCC’s location is also strategic Its roots are firmly planted in

Education City, the brainchild of the not-for-profit Qatar Foundation, a 1,000-hectare enclave that is home to six US universities, while the Sidra Medical and Research Centre and Qatar Science and Technology Park are currently under construction. The vision of Qatar Foundation founder, His Highness Sheikh

Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, is to create Qatar’s legacy of educational and scientific achievement. QNCC will no doubt play a significant role in achieving this goal as it aims to attract business associated with these fields from organisations across the globe.

Innovations include water conservation and energy efficiency with more than 3,500 square metres of solar panels generating 12.5 percent of the centre’s energy requirements.

•The exhibition halls are fitted with full colour LED lighting which allows organisers to control the ambience. We believe that this is the first centre in the world to offer such lighting. The halls also have built-in 35,000 square metre modular mobile rigging grids and a full pit and trench services system across the floor to provide easy access for setup.

• It is strategically located within Education City and serves as a great platform to attract and host the world’s best thought-provoking research and knowledge-based conferences and exhibitions.

Why should meetings industry buyers choose QNCC over any other convention centre in the region? • QNCC’s sheer size is geared for any type of event from an intimate 10-person executive meeting to a large-scale banquet for up to 10,000 guests. • Qatar is one of the safest countries in the world and consistently ranks high in the Global Peace Index. Planners and buyers are seeking safe and stable destinations and Qatar fits the bill. • Intriguing growth opportunities in the country and well-thought-out development provides an interesting background for delegates to explore. Unlike other cities in the region, Doha preserves its heritage and culture to complement the modernity of the developing city resulting in a truly authentic Arabian experience. Modern facilities and international service standards blend well with cultural and traditional values.
