I CAN GET FIT WITH SURGERY. Don’t even get me started! The last thing you want is someone slicing you


open to install a zip-tie on your stomach, to staple it in half, or cut away a slab of fat then stitching you back together. Surgery comes with dangerous side ef- fects and often the side effects are worse than the issue being altered—on top of that, an operation will not make you more fit. Your heart, lungs and muscles will still be in the same condition they were pre-surgery. What makes us fit is movement and nutrition. I know several individuals who have gone down the surgical route, only to regain the weight lost by the procedure. The long-term fix is simple: move more, eat less, control portion size and fre-


quency of meals, quality of food choices, along with a directed and inspected fitness and cardio program. There is an incredible self actualization and em- powerment that realized fitness goals do for you mentally, as well as physically. Do the work and get the BIG payoff.

LONG DISTANCE, SLOW PACE CARDIO IS BEST. For my dogs on long walks, absolutely this is true


for them. For you or me however, slow pace cardio does little to force our cardiovascular system into an adaptation mode. Sure, I enjoy the slow sight seeing, aren’t-my-little-Chihuahuas-so-cute stroll. But to get results on a walk, I need to be walking as if late for the most important meeting I have ever been to, and my little pups can’t contend with that pace. Effective cardio workouts contain variations in timing, changes in intensity, frequency and duration. If you are on a weight loss program or your goal is to “lean out,” slow, long distance activ- ity should not be in your playbook. Nice to have… yes—need to have…no.
