SPOTLIGHT FFIVE

FROM WYNTER GORDON

ACTOIDS

HER FAVORITE FAST FOOD: Popeye’s Fried Chicken

THE FILM THAT SHE CAN WATCH OVER AND OVER AGAIN:Beetlejuice

HER FAVORITE SEASON OF THE YEAR: Definitely the fall.

THE FEMALE SINGER WITH WHOM SHE’D LIKE TO DUET:Jessie from Jessie and the Toy Boys.

HER FAVORITE “OLD-SCHOOL” MUSICAL ARTIST: I’d have to say Michael Jackson. He’s always like the father of pop music.

“I was really fed-up with pop music and where pop music was going. It was where I felt I was being driven

and to write music to conform to that style of pop music. I didn’t want to do it.

cheek attitude. It’s really got a fun beat and makes you move. Right, it is tongue-in-cheek because I’m not an advo-

cate of gold digging. But, I really thought it was fun and Gwen Stefani is one of my idols. I feel like she has the ‘90s groove that I want to hear more in other people’s music. I just thought when I heard the beat for “Buy My Love,” it was just an instantaneous groove. That’s a nice compari- son to Gwen Stefani… I think she’s awesome. Any plans to shoot a video for “Buy My Love?” We just did! It turned out so fun.

Cool. Now on the song, “Still Getting Younger,” that really impressed me with your range and quality. Please tell me a little about the back story of writing that song. I wrote that in London with Nick Littlemore of Empire

of the Sun, and at the time, I was really fed-up with pop music and where pop music was going. It was where I felt I was being driven and to write music to conform to that style of pop music. I didn’t want to do it. Just meeting

Nick was a big freeing experience for me, the song came from within and it literally just took 15 minutes to write. It’s where we naturally just went. How’s Texas treating you? [At the time of the interview, Wynter just landed in Texas for three nights of performances]. I just woke up in Texas literally (laughter). I haven’t

even set foot on Texas ground yet! Please share the experience of your tour so far. This is a totally new experience for me. I’m used to do-

ing festivals with thousands and thousands of people. This is a new audience for me. But, every night I’m win- ning new fans and selling boxes of CDs and it’s a test of my artistry as an entertainer… it’s amazing. It’s what I want to do. It’s really freeing to just rely on the music. I’ve got my own band and it works so well. I can’t wait to put together a bigger show. Sounds like it’s going really well. It’s been a pleasure, Wynter. Thank you, Bill.
