OFF WE GO, INTO THE WILD

BLUE YONDER – BUT NOT WITHOUT THAT GADGET . . . I won’t leave home without it, that thing that

makes my travel life complete—or at least it eases the journey. So the less time you have to think about the “stuff” you take with you the better, these things make your journey just a little easier.

OFFGRID SOLAR BACKPACK: This backpack is coolest

thing ever! A totally versatile bag with two, removable 2.0-watt solar panels, built for durability and can be attached to other bags or connect to your devices via the USB Port or five standard

adapters as it charges them. On top of its ability to power all your handheld electronics, it has 1,500 cubic inches of storage space, with a padded laptop sleeve, integrated phone pouch and plenty of other interior nooks. The shell is made from 100 percent recycled PET (soda bottles), made to be waterproof, lightweight and UV resistant. It has high density padding in the shoulder straps and back, with mesh backing material for better air flow and measures 18” high x 12”wide x 8” deep and weighs 4.5 lbs with a list price of $248. Google it and the price can be as low as $229.

ULTIMATE EAR BUDS: Logitech has come up with ultimate phenom in personal sound technology—and it’s totally custom to your ear. These in-ear monitors have two (or three de- pending on model) the companies proprietary speakers mounted in each bud to create a full concert speaker system in your ear. You will hear the complete spectrum of a recording—and without that couple blabbing endlessly in the seats next to you. They have two basic versions: One is fit specifically to your individual ear’s shape by using physical impressions of your inner ear as molds. A bit more expensive (prices start at $399 and go up from there—don’t ask, it’ll scare you) but the effect is worth it. My favorite comment on the site was; “you might as well stick your head in an amp!” The second design is called the Ultimate Ears Universal Fit Noise- Isolating Earphones (what an earful) made to the same standards that the Custom Stage Earphones, without the pricey molding process. More reasonable with prices starting at $100 up to $399 for their Caddy—they even have a cheapo version for $19.99. But really, are you gonna buy a go-cart when you can get a Beemer? ultimateears.com

THE 150-COUNTRY AUTO-DETECTING TRAVEL ADAPTER AND CONVERTER: The name may be annoying but the gadget isn’t. This

lightweight, compact device is invaluable if you travel internationally because of its ability to automatically detect incoming voltage and converting it to 120-volt AC power for your American gadgetry. It’s configured with a variety of socket adaptations and will work in over 150 countries throughout Europe, Africa, Asia, the Americas and Carib- bean, and Australia. It has a built in USB port that allows you to leave all those nasty charging cables behind and has the ability to simultaneously charge AC and USB at once. Oh, and it has a built in surge protection device so you don’t have to worry about frying that memory chip. Easily packed at 3”h x 2”w x 2.5”d, weighing 3.33oz. and priced around $10—you can’t live with out it. Check it out onamazon.com

HIDING YOUR VALUABLES: The Stashcard:Hide your cash, credit cards,

ID or what ever you need to in that little PC slot in the side of your laptop with this little handy secret compartment! Tiny and cheap $9.95 in most cases, it solves the problem of where to put those credit cards when you don’t want to carry them every where you go! Check it out at: stashcard.com.

It’s a great place to hide those valuables, but

what’s the point if they steal the laptop? So, buy a lock for your computer—look no further than the Kensington MicroSaver Cable Lock at: us.kensington.com.

Reef Stash Sandals: Another hidden

gem – literally. Each of these “I’m not just what I look like flip-flops” contains a nifty little tray in the heel that slides out to hold those valuables you’d rather no on knows you have on you— very “Get Smart.” $46 ateternalsnow.com.
