New Zealand to stage biggest ever timber show

Forest Industries 2011 runs from September 4-7, ending four days before South Africa plays its first match, against Wales, on September 11. The event starts with a VIP launch on Sunday, September 4. Expo will run from September 5-7. Held every four years, the Expo showcases New Zealand forestry and wood processing machinery, technology and management systems. Then, in tandem with the PF Olsen Expo are 14 BNZ Tech Clinics on September 5-6, covering forestry and wood processing materials, technology and markets. As well, the BNZ International
Conference: Innovative Products, Designs & New Developments for Timber Building, on September 7 features presentations on European and North American experiences and advances in multi-storey timber buildings, New Zealand innovations, new materials, prefabrication and case studies. The program also includes a
tech breakfast and a casino night aboard the Lakeland Queen on Lake Rotorua. Associated events include the opening of Waiariki Institute of Technology’s innovative new School of Forestry building, along with a new gasification plant to use sawdust and woodchip to generate syngas to fire the school’s Windsor high temperature kilns, and the annual FITEC industry training awards dinner on 7 September. FI2011 will be the core of a nationwide wood products showcase known as Winning With Wood, which will feature standing displays of innovative uses of wood around New Zealand throughout September and early October. FI2011 is organised by a group including the Rotorua District Council and NZ Trade and
